The latest generation Honda CR-V debuted for the 2017 model year, which means it’s among the earliest small SUVs available. Yet, Honda has managed to develop an impressive all-around package, and the CR-V remains among our best picks. It doesn’t matter if you want space or comfort, driving pleasure or value. Honda almost has it all covered with the CRV. Apart from the Touring trim, which comes with all-wheel drive and the 2022 Honda CR-V 5th generation is pretty much the same.

This isn’t an issue in the grand scheme of things. The CR-V will be competing against other impressive small SUVs. For instance, The new Nissan Rogue and Hyundai Tucson are of great value. At the same time, the Mazda CX-5 stands out with its stylish design and enticing performance.
Why do we recommend it?
Even in its basic trim, the CR-V is quite impressive, but we would suggest upgrading to the mid-level EX trim to get the best value. It comes with additional options like blind-spot monitoring and Apple and Android smartphone integration without putting the price way too high.

Best Tech
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are compatible for all except the LX trim. Bluetooth connectivity, as well as streaming audio, are available with each Honda CR-V. Higher trims have more USB ports and two ports in the rear. Navigation screens are easy to navigate however some menus on touchscreens are difficult to navigate. There are no voice commands well to use either. There is a lot of safety features.
Every CR-V is equipped with Lane-keeping assistance, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision alerts with automated brakes. Collision monitoring can trigger unneeded alerts when there is a lot of traffic; however, other than that, it is a useful feature.

The EPA estimates that the all-wheel-drive CR-V will achieve 29 mpg when combined highway and city driving. Front-wheel-drive models achieve 30 mpg in the combined mode. These numbers make it one of the most efficient cars within its category, and our tests have observed it to be CR-V is quite sensitive to how you drive. As a reference, a previous test vehicle clocked an impressive 35.4 miles per gallon on our 115-mile test route; the other CR-V clocked around 28 mpg in longer-distance testing.
