The 2022 BMW 5 Series is a terrific luxury sedan. The 5 Series is comfortable and relaxing to drive day to day but still athletic enough to entertain when the roads get twisty. A range of engine options is available, from a powerful 248-horsepower four-cylinder to a massive 627-horsepower v8. Each one is a joy to drive, and it shows enthusiasm. It also has a comfortable cabin, high-quality materials, and an easy-to-use infotainment system. It is a well-rounded vehicle.
BMW 5 Series vs. Audi A6
Another standout luxury midsize car is the Audi A6. The A6 is a luxury midsize car with a spacious interior, comfortable handling, and powerful engine power. You can choose from a variety of safety and tech features. Both are excellent options in this segment and are comparable in price. The A6 is a better option in terms of interior quality. However, the 5 Series has a more user-friendly infotainment system and a larger trunk.
5 Series Interior
The interior of the BMW 5 Series is quite conservative. Overall, the interior is attractive and sleek. The fit and finish are excellent, from the soft upholstered surfaces to crisp metal accents. Although quiet and peaceful, it lacks the visual flair of class competitors like the Audi A6 and Genesis G80.
5 Series Infotainment
The 5 Series is outfitted with BMW’s I Drive infotainment system, which pairs a 12.3-inch touch screen in the center of the dashboard with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster behind the steering wheel. These displays are beautiful and respond quickly to inputs. You can control the touch screen in many other ways. There are buttons on the dashboard and a touchpad on the center console. A knob and touchpad can also be used to control the touch screen. I Drive is one of the easiest to use in this market, thanks to its redundant controls and logical menu structure. You can adjust the settings using hand gestures, such as turning up the stereo volume by twisting your finger. However, it will often respond to unintended gestures. 5 Series Engine Performance
BMW offers the 2022 5 Series with a range of turbocharged engine options, and there isn’t a bad pick in the bunch. The base 530i has a 248-horsepower four-cylinder that feels spunky and eager, and it confidently zips the 5 Series around town and up to highway speeds. Zero to 60 mph takes six seconds. It’s a similar story with the 530e, which has a plug-in-hybrid version of that engine with 288 horsepower. With its 335 horsepower inline-six, the 540i is the middle of this lineup. The sedan is a joy to drive, thanks to its smooth-revving engine and abundant passing power.
The sedan can reach 60 mph in under five seconds and is still very refined enough to navigate in stop-and-go traffic. The M550i and M5 models are at the top of this lineup. The M550i has a V8 engine that produces 523 horsepower, while the M5 is powered by 600 to 627 horsepower. It feels like it has a lot of muscle. These cars accelerate quickly, producing a loud exhaust sound. It takes just 2.9 seconds to go from 0-to 60 mph. Each engine has an eight-speed automatic transmission, delivering smooth and quick shifts.
